Gaetano Orsolini (1884-1954), from the Cycle for the Royal Train, 1926-1929.
Gaetano Orsolini, a sculptor, medallist, and student of Edoardo Rubino, was commissioned between 1926 and 1929 to create the decorative medallions for the Royal Train. This plaster bas-relief is part of that cycle: the archer centaur inscribed in a starry roundel, the body's strength held in the instant before the shot, the stars engraved in the field like a watchful sky.
A piece with a precise history, in excellent condition, carrying the subtle weight of a royal commission.
