The original marble bust preserved at the Pinacoteca di Faenza is one of the most debated pieces of 15th-century Florentine sculpture, attributed by many to Benedetto da Maiano, by others to Rossellino or Desiderio da Settignano; its authorship remains open. What is not in question is its quality: the boy's features, his downward gaze, the material that seems to create light.
This plaster cast captures all its grace with the sobriety typical of academic studies. A piece that carries the silent weight of one of the open questions of the Florentine Renaissance.
